Weddings
Ruth Jackson and William Graves Jr. are wed
Ruth Rebecca Jackson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Jackson (Helen B. Butte) of Cincinnati, OH, was married on August 6, 2016, to William Moulton Graves Jr., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William M. Graves (Anne H. Hammond) of Old Greenwich, CT, and Grand Isle, VT. The ceremony took place at the Lady Chapel, a 105-year-old Episcopal Church at Westerly, the Graves family property in Grand Isle. A reception, also held at Westerly, followed the couple’s vows.
The bride, who for the time being will keep her name, is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse E. Butte (Janie Shelp) of Milan, IN. She is also the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jackson (Daisy Henri) of Dugan Gap, OH.
The groom is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry S. Hammond (Helen Hoffstot) of Garden City, NY, and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harmon S. Graves (Beatrice Wild) of Rye, NY.
Mr. Graves’ great-grandfather, the Reverend Gemont Graves, built the Lady Chapel on 1,200 feet of lakeshore property that he acquired for his six children. The reception, a brunch held under a pavilion overlooking Lake Champlain, included a cake of the same design that the bride loved as a child, thanks to the tireless researchers at Wilton Industries. The traditional cake-cutting took place at Wedding Bells Bungalow, a cottage on the property built by the groom’s uncle, John Henry Hopkins III.
Ms. Jackson graduated from the University of Cincinnati. Mr. Graves is a graduate of Rollins College, where he also received an MBA.
The couple took a wedding trip to Shelburne, VT, and Bolton Landing, NY, and reside in Winter Park and Orlando, FL.
